Celebrating Learning and Community

We were thrilled to host a dynamic series of events as part of Adult Learners Week — a nationwide celebration of lifelong learning. We embraced the opportunity to shine a light on the power of education to empower, connect, and inspire.

Inspiring Talk with Shae McGregor
Kicking off the week, BCAL welcomed Shae McGregor from TAFE Gippsland for an insightful talk on “Empowering Disadvantaged Learners.” Shae shared experiences from her overseas study tour and explored barriers to learning—such as culture, gender, age, and socio-economic background. It was a call to action for educators and community providers to foster learning environments that are inclusive and compassionate.

Local Learning Pathways Showcase
The highlight of the week was the ‘Local Learning Pathways Showcase’. Community members visited three educational hubs—BCAL and the Country Universities Centre—discovering a wide array of courses:
• At BCAL, visitors were greeted by Centre Manager, David, before being touring the facilities. Afterwards, the Skills and Jobs Centre supplied a sausage sizzle and visitors also enjoyed cake.
• Then guests visited the Country Universities Centre for a campus tour, student meet-and-greets, and a look at how local higher education pathways are supported in Bass Coast.
