The Certificate II in Salon Assistant is your ideal starting point for a career in the hair and beauty industry. You’ll develop practical, entry-level skills for working in a salon environment, including customer service, salon safety, shampooing and basic styling. This course also provides insight into the day-to-day operations of a working salon and introduces you to industry expectations.

Learn in a real salon setting at BCAL, guided by experienced trainers who understand the needs of beginner learners. This hands-on course is designed to build your confidence and prepare you for further training or employment in the industry.

Classes

Every Wednesday, with Friday for work placement for VET DSS participants for the duration of the school year. One semester for participants over 18, Skills First students, every Wednesday.

Learning materials

Laptops available or bring your own. Notepad and plastic sleeve folder. Skin Deep training manual to be purchased by Skills First students.

SHBHDES001: Dry hair to shape
SHBXCCS009: Greet and prepare clients for salon services
BSBWHS211: Contribute to the health and safety of self and others
SHBXIND003: Comply with organisational requirements within a personal services environment
SHBHIND001: Maintain and organise tools, equipment and work areas
SHBXIND005: Communicate as part of a salon team

 

 

Fees

Full fee – $564.

Concession fee – $300.

Skills Check
All candidates are required to have a Skills Check.

Salon equipment and tools all supplied in the classroom.

 

Study Commitment

Attendance requirements
80% class attendance.

Independent learning activities
4 hours per week and work placement over 20 weeks.
