This comprehensive course is designed for those looking to start or grow a career in gardening, landscaping, plant care, or nursery work. Delivered by an experienced trainer, the Certificate III in Horticulture covers the essential knowledge and practical skills required to succeed in a variety of horticulture roles.

Students learn key techniques such as plant identification and nutrition, pest and disease control, environmentally sustainable practices, and amenity pruning. Training takes place in BCAL’s dedicated training garden and at industry locations throughout the Bass Coast, giving participants valuable real-world experience and industry connections.

Units include:

  • Control plant pests, diseases and disorders

  • Implement a plant establishment program

  • Apply environmentally sustainable work practices

  • Perform specialist amenity pruning

  • Coordinate work site activities

Entrance Requirements and student resources

  • Students should be able to meet the physical requirements of working outdoors, lifting, and using equipment under supervision
  • Steel capped boots
  • Sun protection – wide brimmed hat, long pants, collared shirt, sunscreen
  • Wet weather gear
  • Laptops are available, or students can bring their own

Study commitment

  • Attendance requirements
  • 80% class attendance (minimum)
  • Independent learning activities
  • 4 and 6 hours per week
  • Work placement 100 hours (3 hours per week)

Fees

  • Standard Fee: $800

  • Concession Fee: $320 (for eligible students)
